What's New

19th March 2003: A long time without updates due to other commitments. I have just updated the information on ADSL and added some more communication links. Some background work is being carried out which will hopefully improve the site.

24th December 2001: Apologies if you have been unable to access this site via our usual address. There has just been a server upgrade and the hosting got messed up. But the site is now back! The domain has just been renewed for another 2 years and the main page is undergoing a bit of redesign. Look out for more news soon. In the meantime have a good Christmas.

28th November 2001: Added some more terms to the glossary. Happy Christmas to all my readers.

6th November 2001: You can now get the latest computer news from this site's main page courtesy of Future Publishing who publish a number of magazines. Apologies for the lack of updates recently but I have been ill and also concentrating on the site for Worcestershire Camera Club.

30th August 2001: Several new additions to the glossary. Are you concerned about security on the net? Whether you are or are not there is now an overview in the Communication section. This will be useful for those using a credit, charge or debit card. There are appropriate links in the bibliography section.

28th August 2001: More information on GIFS and JPEGS under File Formats.

15th August 2001: Added some links to do with firewalls.

22nd July 2001: Updated hard disk pages with a bit more technical information which is of particular importance when adding or upgrading a drive. The lazy summer is here (!) so don't expect too much in the way of updates in the next month or so.

16th July 2001: Added a few more links to the bibliography section - notably on XML. This is a browser language that tells the browser where things are on a page rather than let the browser work it out for itself.

14th July 2001: Updated info on DSL and addedd a note about security.

20th May 2001: For anyone who hasn't fitted RAM in their machine before but wants to upgrade their RAM (or is perhaps building a new machine) a short guide to fitting RAM is now available. If you're buying a DVD player you may want to know about Macrovision or RCE.

13th May 2001: Continued reorganisation of the bibliography and the addition of a few more links. Also added a page to help people buying DVD players or drives or sound systems for these explaining some of the sound formats.

6th May 2001: Fixed some problems with the contact form (also noticed minor things needed doing to my other sites.)

15th April 2001: A number of additional terms etc have been added to the glossary.

8th April 2001 After a long absence due to work and other projects demanding time we now have a guide to RAM (at least the start of one!). This is designed to help those buying RAM in the main but should help explain some of the terms used when reading about RAM.

3rd February 2001 Minor updates to the glossary and bibliography sections.Minor additions to the phone technologies page. What is a modem, how's it work and what does it do? Find out with this latest addition.

13th January 2001 A minor update on the CD page with regard to disc speeds. This should make it more useful to those recording their own CDs. Added information on the different backup types, what they involve and how to choose which one to do.
